Biographical Memoirs are biographies of deceased National Academy of Sciences members, written by those who knew them or their work. The collection includes over 1,600 memoirs.
Women have made major contributions to the sciences for centuries. Yet surveys repeatedly show that most people can only name a few—often just one or two—female scientists.
